The fees payable for a Common Licence (issued by the Diocesan Registry on behalf of the Bishop) come to a total of £200.00 of which £52.00 is payable to the Surrogate and £148.00 to the Diocesan Registrar/Chancellor. The fees due to the Registrar/Chancellor should be settled by a cheque made payable to 'The Bishop of Ely's Registry'.
The fee payable for a Special Licence (issued by the Faculty Office on behalf of the Archbishop of Canterbury) is £310.00. Once the application has been approved, one of the parties will have to swear an affidavit (a formal statement) to confirm the information given. This can be done in front of an Anglican minister (to whom a fee of £5.00 will be payable) near to where the parties to the proposed marriage reside, or at the Faculty Office (when no extra fee is charged).
Fees for both Common and Special Marriage Licences are set (by the Diocesan Chancellor and Faculty Office respectively) for each year from 1st April to 31st March. The above fees are subject to change on 1st April annually.
