Marriage Licences

The fee payable for a Special Licence (issued by the Faculty Office on behalf of the Archbishop of Canterbury) is £325.00. Once the application has been approved, one of the parties will have to swear an affidavit (a formal statement) to confirm the information given. This can be done in front of an Anglican minister (to whom a fee of £5.00 will be payable) near to where the parties to the proposed marriage reside, or at the Faculty Office (when no extra fee is charged).

The fee for a Common Licence (issued by the Diocesan Registry) is £200. This includes the £52 fee for swearing the affidavit in front of a Surrogate.

Fees for both Common and Special Marriage Licences are set (by the Diocesan Chancellor and Faculty Office respectively) for each year from 1st April to 31st March. The above fees are subject to change on 1st April annually.
